Red-Eyes Black Dragon is used by Katsuya Jonouchi, the protagonist Yugi Muto's best friend and former bully.
Jonouchi, who didn't originally have such a rare card, was able to obtain Red-Eyes Black Dragon because he defeated Dinosaur Ryuzaki in the preliminaries of the Kingdom Arc Duelist Kingdom.
Unlike the Battle City arc, Duelist Kingdom did not have a rule that cards would be handed over depending on whether or not they won. However, Jonouchi, who was fighting against Dinosaur Ryuzaki, set a condition that whoever won during the match would hand over a rare card. Dinosaur Ryuzaki wanted to defeat Kujaku Mai, while Jonouchi wanted to obtain the "Time Magician" that had tormented Kujaku Mai, so it could be said that their interests were aligned. Jonouchi won this duel and obtained Red-Eyes, which became a popular card that has appeared many times since then.
Regarding this matter, in the anime original story "Doma Arc", when Dinosaur Ryuzaki dueled Jonouchi, he insulted him out of resentment.

Furthermore, this card can be considered the "original Red-Eyes Black Dragon" before it was errataed (when the text of a card that has already been released is changed).
